Sky Metalwala: Bellevue Police Effort Continues on Missing Toddler Case a Year Later

The search for missing toddler Sky Metalwala has continued a year after he first was reported missing in Bellevue, according to the Bellevue Police Department.

Sky, who was 2 at the time of his disappearance, was reported missing one year ago today, on Nov. 6, 2011, by his mother Julia Biryukova. Biryukova, who was embroiled in a child custody dispute with her ex-husband, Solomon Metalwala, told police that she left Sky in her car parked on the side of the road while she went to get gas. After Sky disappeared, Solomon Metalwala won sole custody of their young daughter, Maile.

We know it has been hard for family members to cope with the disappearance. It is not uncommon that new information may still come to light even after a year or more.

Sky was reported missing by his mother on November 6, 2011 in Bellevue after reporting she ran out of gas and left Sky in the vehicle while walking to find gas. When she returned, Sky was missing.  An intensive search took place, but Sky was not located.

Anyone with any information regarding Sky should email pdtipline@bellevuewa.gov.

Biryukova told Bellevue Police that she left her son in the car early one Sunday on a Bellevue street when she ran out of gas. Bellevue police could not corroborate her story of her car breaking down. Police also said that it had been at least two weeks prior to Sky's disappearance since anyone apart from Biryukova had reported seeing the boy.

Metalwala, of Kirkland, has kept the search for his son going, with several widely publicized search campaigns and a vigil for Sky earlier this year.
