Trooper and Motorist Struck on I-405 Shoulder During DUI Arrest, Washington State Patrol Says

The second driver may have been driving under the influence, according to Washington State Patrol

A trooper and a driver under investigation for driving under the influence were injured after being struck by another driver who also may have been driving under the influence, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The second driver, whom Washington State Patrol said was impaired, drove into the back of a patrol car parked on the right shoulder of Interstate 405 near State Route 520, the Washington State Patrol reported.

At 11:45 p.m. Thursday, Trooper Michael Porter, a two and a half year veteran with the Washington State Patrol, stopped a silver BMW X3 to perform an investigation for driving under the influence, the state patrol reported.

While the trooper was arresting the driver, a 32-year-old man from Bellingham, identified as Gregory Jones of Bellingham, on suspicion of DUI, the patrol car was struck by a green Acura Integra and pushed into the back of the BMW, the state patrol said. The trooper and the driver under arrest were struck by the hood of the BMW when it was pushed forward, the Washington State Patrol reported. The driver of the Acura, a 26-year-old woman, identified as Ketra Ashby from Shoreline, is under investigation for DUI and Vehicular Assault.

All involved parties were transported to Overlake Hospital Medical Center with potentially serious injuries, the state patrol said. Porter has been released to his residence with the majority of his injuries to his leg where he was struck by the BMW, the state patrol said.
