Troopers: DUI a Factor in I-405 Rollover Crash

A 25-year-old Maple Valley man is facing vehicular assault charges after rolling a BMW multiple times Friday night while exiting Interstate 405 at NE 70th.

A 25-year-old Maple Valley man is facing vehicular assault charges after rolling a BMW while exiting Interstate 405 northbound at NE 70th in Kirkland Friday night, injuring himself and two other men in the car.

The Washington State Patrol reported that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, and one occupant was trapped in the car after it rolled multiple times, according to Kirkland firefighters.

Taylor Dewater was at the wheel of the 2004 BMW M3 at about 10 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve on the off ramp and rolled the car, which came to rest upside down near the intersection of NE 70th and at the intersection of 116th Avenue NE, according to a State Patrol press memo. That's on south Rose Hill near the 116th Avenue Park and Ride lot.

Dewater and the two other men inside were taken to Overlake Hospital in Bellevue, and firefighters reported that at least one of the three suffered critical injuries. The other two men are Troy Isbell of Maple Valley and Kyle Yonago of Seattle, both also 25. All three were using seat belts.

Units from both the Kirkland and Bellevue fire departments responded to the crash, which remains under State patrol investigation.
