Redmond Fire Crews Respond to Transformer Fire at Microsoft

Firefighters have extinguished an electrical transformer fire in a parking gararge on the campus.

Jim Bove, a spokesman for the , said the fire broke out at around 11 a.m. in building 92, located at 15010 NE 36th St.

Crews from the Redmond, Bellevue and Kirkland fire departments responded and quickly put out the blaze, Bove said.

“Everything is as back to normal as it gets over there,” he said at about 12:30 p.m.

Microsoft told GeekWire Wednesday morning that there was a transformer fire with lots of smoke and that employees put it out before the fire department arrived. The company said the building was evacuated and the power was turned off.

Bove said he could not confirm whether employees helped put out the fire but said firefighters had to use dry material to extinguish the blaze. No injuries were reported.

Fire officials are still investigating what caused the Microsoft-owned transformer to ignite, Bove said.
