WSP: Bellevue Man Crashed Car, Then Reported It As Stolen
A Bellevue man was booked on suspicion of false reporting, Felony Hit and Run, Vehicular Assault, and driving under the influence after police say he crashed his car and reported it stolen.
A Bellevue man was booked last week on suspicion of false reporting, Felony Hit and Run, Vehicular Assault, and driving under the influence after police say he crashed his car and reported it stolen, the Washington State Patrol reported Wednesday.
According to a press release, at 11:30 p.m. Feb. 25, a silver Volkswagen GTI crashed on the HOV access ramp from NE 6th to northbound Interstate 405 in Bellevue. The passenger was seriously injured and the driver fled on foot, according to the report.
The passenger, a 21 year old Vancouver man, was seriously injured and officers searched the surrounding area for the driver who had run from the vehicle, according to the press release.

While Washington State Patrol troopers investigated the crash, 9-1-1- dispatchers told troopers that a current caller was reporting the vehicle as stolen, according to the press release.
In response to the stolen report troopers went to the home of Pavel Rospotnkuk, a 24-year-old Bellevue man, who had reported the crashed Volkswagen as stolen, according to the report. Witnesses identified Rospotnkuk as the driver, and he was placed under arrest, according to the report.

Rospotnkuk was booked in King County Jail on suspicion of Felony Hit and Run, Vehicular Assault, DUI and False Reporting, according to the press release.
In the month of February alone 166 hit and run collisions were reported to King County Washington State Patrol dispatch, according to the Washington State Patrol.
