"Bellevue Essentials" Class Aims to Train Emerging Leaders

Citizens can learn about the inner workings of Bellevue through a new leadership class that will be held in the fall.

According to the city, preference will be given to applicants who are new to public service and who represent geographic diversity across Bellevue. 

Participants in Bellevue Essentials will have the opportunity to meet a variety of leaders including leadership in local neighborhoods, nonprofits, elected officials and other aspects of the community.

The classes will launch on Sept. 25, with eight weekly Wednesday evening sessions and one Saturday tour day. The primary goal is to help participants understand the structure and operations of Bellevue's city government, according to a city press release.

The eight sessions will cover city history, neighborhoods, parks and community services, planning, budget, transportation, arts and cultural diversity.

The aim of the class is to help educate emerging community leaders, according to a city press release.

The class will be limited to 30 participants and tuition is $95 per participant, with financial assistance available.

Applications are due by Aug. 1. Applicants will be accepted based on the following:

  • Identification as emerging leaders 
  • Geographic diversity
  • Personal goals of participation in program
  • Date of application
