Eastgate and Tamara Hills Annexation on Agenda of Tonight's Bellevue City Council Meeting

Eastgate and Tamara Hills could be a little closer to becoming officially part of the city of Bellevue, after a public hearing at the Bellevue City Council meeting scheduled for tonight.

The regular meeting starts at 8 p.m. in the city council chambers and includes a public hearing on the .

After the public hearing, the city council could decide as soon as March 19 to make those neigborhoods official neighborhoods of Bellevue.

Eastgate and Tamara Hills are surrounded by Bellevue, but are officially part of unincorporated King County. While Bellevue police respond to emergency calls, non-emergency law enforcement, such as thefts, is by the King County Sheriff's Office and the area's fire district pays the Bellevue Fire Department to cover fire and medical emergencies.

The annexation proposal has met the requirement for gaining the support of property owners that make up more than 50 percent of the assessed valuation of the neighborhoods, according to city documents.

The combined areas would bring 5,178 new residents into Bellevue's population of about 122,000 people.

The annexation process of Eastgate and Tamara Hills would not affect proposals to annex the neighboring areas of Horizon View and Hilltop.
