Youth Connection| Bellevue Youth and City Officials Connect at Gumbo Night

A recap of an annual Bellevue Youth Link tradition - Gumbo Night

Feb. 8 was the date of a crucial event for the Bellevue Youth Council--its annual Gumbo Night. During this event, hosted by Sherry Grindeland, the members of the council had the opportunity to talk with various board members, city council members, and other city officials. The twist? It was around a familial environment with gumbo.

For a couple of hours, youth of Bellevue engaged adults about issues that they saw in the community, whether in school or in other community centers. It was a great way to make connections with the people in charge of running the city and show the officials what Youth Link has done in the wake of the budget crisis two years ago.

Though a private event, there was no limit to the conversations that went on from school policies to city activities as participants built bonds and, of course, enjoyed gumbo.
