Interstate 90 Express Lanes Closed Through Mercer Island This Weekend

Eastbound express lane access from Seattle to Mercer Island will close at 8 p.m. Friday night and reopen Monday morning.

Interstate 90’s center-roadway express lanes from Seattle to Bellevue will be closed this weekend for construction. The center roadway is scheduled to close at 8 p.m. Friday, July 22, and reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, July 25, for transit and carpools of two people or more traveling westbound, the regular morning rush-hour direction.

The lanes are usually open for eastbound traffic from 2 p.m. Friday until midnight on Sunday.

During the closure crews will install drainage pipe across the express lanes. The work is part of I-90 Two-Way Transit and HOV Operations - Stage 2, a joint project of Sound Transit and the Washington State Department of Transportation. The project will improve eastbound I-90 from Mercer Island to Bellevue with a new HOV lane in the eastbound outer roadway, on-ramp enhancements and pavement preservation. Stage 2 construction is scheduled to be complete in early 2012.
