Permanent Changes Coming to I-405, SR-520 Onramps

The Washington State Department of Transportation has released a video explaining the new way to get on Interstate 405 and State Route 520.

After this , the downtown Bellevue onramps will change permanently.

Drivers will no longer be able to access State Route 520 from Northeast Eighth Street, according to the the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Motorists need to take Northeast Tenth Street in order to access State Route 520. The new Northeast Eighth Street onramp will lead to northbound I-405.

Northbound I-405 will shut down completely this weekend through downtown Bellevue as crews connect the new freeway onramps.

Check out this video by WSDOT if you need help remembering the change.

Crews will connect new ramps between Interstate 405 and State Route 520 starting at 11 p.m. Sept. 23. The freeway is slated to reopen at 4 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26.

When leaving 405 thru Bellevue to the Redmond exit swinging left to take the exit to 520 to access northrup way what changes will be made?

Thanks for your question, Wanda. Barbara Ramey, spokeswoman for the contractor, Guy F. Atkinson, cleared this up: Drivers on northbound I-405 will need to exit about a half mile earlier than they do now to get on the new ramp to SR 520 from I-405. They can then choose to go either westbound (which your reader is asking about) or eastbound. We really do need mainline drivers to pay attention to this, otherwise they may end up turning around at NE 70th Street in Kirkland!
