Reminder: Sound Transit East Link Open House Tonight

Sound Transit will host an open house on money saving ideas for the East Link line through Bellevue tonight from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 26 at Bellevue City Hall.

An agreement between the agency and the city means that Bellevue will cover $100 million of that cost with tax breaks, property acquisition and other actions. The city also plans to cover $60 million of the cost of the tunnel with cash -- unless cost savings can be found in the line through Bellevue.

But city officials emphasized to Sound Transit Monday night that their main concern is minimizing the impact to the nearby neighborhoods and not necessarily the costs.

Ideas being considered include moving the historic Winters House, realigning Bellevue Way, changing the elevation of a light rail track near Surrey Downs, but none of the ideas are final, according to Sound Transit.

The ideas will get further design and engineering and Sound Transit plans to incorporate the money-saving concepts into its East Link plans by June.

Construction on the line is expected to be from 2015-2022 and service is expected by 2023.
