Rep. Marcie Maxwell (D-Renton) announced on Tuesday that she will be stepping down from her seat in the state Legislature for a new gig.
Maxwell has been tapped as Gov. Jay Inslee's Senior Education Policy Adviser for K-12, early learning and higher education, according to her Facebook page.
Maxwell, who represented the 41st District, served as the deputy majority leader for education and opportunity.
She was also on the Renton School Board from 2001 to 2009 and King County School Boards’ Legislative Representative to the Washington State School Directors Association.
Maxwell posted a message on her Facebook page thanking her supporters:
"I appreciate the very kind words from so many of you as I move on from the legislature to accept a new role as Governor Inslee's Senior Education Policy Advisor for K-12, early learning, and higher education!"
According to Joel Connelly of the SeattlePI.com, the King County Council will select the next state representative to fill Maxwell's seat and that person will have to run for the office in November.
