People interested in buying a liquor store in Bellevue have a month to bid before the state auction ends on April 20.
The Washington State Liquor Control Board is auctioning the state-run stores on the state's Public Surplus website as a result of the , which opened liquor sales to retailers with a footprint of 10,000 square feet who apply for liquor licenses.
The footprints of the existing stores are the only exception to the law's footprint requirement, according to the state. , with some exceptions (listed here on the state liquor control board website).
Auction winners get the right to sell liquor at that location, or within a one-square mile radius, but the inventory of liquor and the lease on the location are not included in the bid. (The winner has to take care of those things separately.)
Each store is being auctioned, and there is one auction for purchasing the entire state liquor store system. According to the liquor control board, if the total revenue of an all-store network bid exceeds the value of the individual stores high bids combined, then the individual bids will be declined and rights will be awarded to the all-store network bid.
