Toes Start Tapping With 'Mary Poppins'
The musical has added some new songs to the old standbys, including a show-stopping tap number.
Plan on a toe tapping good time this month, as Mary Poppins the Musical comes to town. I am so ready. I love this show. I first saw Mary Poppins in New York City. It was playing at the New Amsterdam Theatre, a rather large and grand old theater of yesteryear. The Amsterdam was the home of the Ziegfeld Follies. Disney took over this theater first for The Lion King and then Mary Poppins. The musical version of Mary Poppins follows the movie plot somewhat, with Nanny, kids and, of course, Burt the chimney sweep. They have added some new songs right along with the old standbys. By far the best thing they added was a really wonderful tap number to "Step in Time." This is the show-stopper--dancing and tapping, and what Burt does is magical. When I heard the road show was coming to the Paramount Theatre, I got very excited and I knew that I wanted to share this theater experience, so I'm taking my mother and aunts to the show. I so enjoy sharing good musical theater. If you are going, let me know what you think about the dancing. This link will get you to the Paramount home page and more information about Mary Poppins. It's a show the whole family will enjoy!
