Bellevue Superintendent Search: Brochure Calls City Progressive, Racially Diverse, Highly Educated

Search firm McPherson and Jacobson have created a recruitment brochure to help locate a replacement for superintendent for Amalia Cudeiro, who left the district earlier this year.

Bellevue is a "progressive, forward-thinking community," with "a very highly educated adult population," and "is located in one of the most  technology-savvy sectors on the planet, with  major companies such as Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Expedia and more nearby."

That's the picture of Bellevue that a brochure created by in its search for candidates for the superintendent position at the Bellevue School District.

The search has been on for a replacement for superintendent  in Bellevue, citing the need to care for her terminally ill mother in California.

The district since then has been on . The Bellevue district has yet to bring any candidates in for a public interview, even as for next school year.

Assistant superintendent , and she has indicated that she would like to return to her position as head of Instructional Services and School Support.

The brochure is not all roses. The brochure points out that more than 80 languages are spoken in the district and 30 percent of students speak a first language other than English. About one in five students receive free or reduced-priced meals. 

Poverty and language barriers are factors that can contribute to an achievement gap with the general population of students.

And the brochure also includes a list of requirements for the candidate, which were determined , including being a "Forward-Looking Trailblazer," a "Character Role Model" and someone who "Inclusively Engages Diverse Community."

The brochure also maintains a fast interview timeline, with an application deadline by April 30 and candidates being interviewed by May 21-23, and with a start date of July 1.
