Bellevue School Foundation's Lunch Series Starts Thursday with School Funding Discussion

The first of Bellevue School Foundation's Education Connections series launches Thursday talk on school finance. The series continues the next two months with talks on the arts and technology.

The Bellevue Schools Foundation launches its Education Connections speaker series Thursday with a discussion on school funding.

The speaker series occurs on the last Thursdays of March, April, and May on education-related topics at the Wilburton Instructional Service Center, 12241 Main St., Bellevue. Complimentary lunch will be provided by the students in  Culinary Arts Program.

Advance registration is requested. Go to the Bellevue Schools Foundation site to register for the events.

Why are Washington schools near the bottom in per-pupil funding? How can we provide Bellevue schools the resources they need to educate our children? Understanding school funding is critical to advocating for it. School Finance Consultant and Former Educator Howard Johnson makes school funding understandable and surprisingly interesting! 

The Arts: Part of a Complete Education for Every Student

Did you know that the arts are part of "basic education" in Washington State? How does arts learning impact student engagement and success? What opportunities for arts education are provided in Bellevue? And what is our role in ensuring that the arts are equitably provided? Join Una McAlinden, Executive Director of ArtsEd Washington and a Bellevue parent, and Pam Schroeder, Bellevue School District Arts Coordinator, to explore the answers to these questions and more!

Technology for Academic Success

How can technology in our schools promote positive outcomes? Carl Sweetland, Bellevue School District’s Director of Technology, will discuss the technology being used in our schools, how it impacts student learning, and what’s on the horizon.Microsoft’s Kevin Wang will share the innovative and exciting TEALS program, which brings technology leaders into the schools to teach computer science.
