Bellevue Schools Foundation Luncheon Raises $596,000

The annual Bellevue Schools Foundation luncheon raised $596,745 for school programs last week, the foundation announced.

The speakers at the event included student speaker Jesus Cruz from Bellevue Big Picture School, who got a standing ovation after speaking about how mentorship programs at the school transformed his attitude toward education and leadership.

The money raised funds a variety of school programs, including ones focusing on math, college and class readiness, positive behavior, music and other programs, such as International School's Robotics Team. The foundation also helps pay for National Board Certification for teachers.

The Bellevue Schools Foundation provided the following information on its most recent event:

Strong schools are one of the top reasons families and businesses choose to locate in Bellevue. On Friday, May 17, more than 1,100 business and community leaders demonstrated just how important the schools are by attending the Bellevue Schools Foundation’s 25th anniversary Spring for Schools luncheon and raising more than $596,000.

The luncheon featured stories of success from within Bellevue schools and was led by Steve Pool of KOMO-TV. “This display of support for our schools is just incredible” said Bellevue School District Superintendent Dr. Tim Mills. “Through the Bellevue Schools Foundation, community donors provide important opportunities and support for every student in our district. The Bellevue Schools Foundation is making a difference in the lives of our students.”

Under the direction of Nancy Fisher, the Newport High School jazz choir provided entertainment for guests. Representatives from many different Foundation-supported programs shared stories and information during the pre-event Education Showcase.

“This event demonstrates how much our community cares,” said Foundation Executive Director Roxanne Kröon Shepherd. “The education a child receives today can change the course of their lifeforever. It’s our responsibility as a community to step up and give every child the education he or she needs and deserves.”
