Tentative Agreement Reached on Bellevue Teachers Contract

A week before the start of school, the Bellevue Education Association and the Bellevue School District report a tentative contract agreement.

Bellevue Education Association and the Bellevue School District reported reaching a tentative two-year contract agreement, with one week to go before the start of classes.

“We are thrilled that the two sides have reached this two-year tentative agreement,” said Superintendent Amalia Cudeiro, in a prepared statement.  “Our goal was to reach a contract that was beneficial for students and honors teachers and we feel this agreement does that.  We are not releasing further details at this time in order to allow BEA and its members to discuss the tentative agreements at their general membership meeting tomorrow night.”

School Board President Chris Marks said in a prepared statement, “Both the District’s bargaining team and BEA have worked long hours on this new agreement that will better support students, teachers and parents. I know we’re all excited to start school.”

The teachers and the district bargained during the summer and came to agreement over 30 different issues.

The remaining differences last week were regarding the use of Early Release Wednesdays -- whether it would be used for for class preparation or for district-directed training -- and how quickly the teachers will be required to update assignments and grades in the gradebook, which is accessible all year to families.
