Bellevue College launches Science Saturdays for middle-schoolers
Can rocks tell a story? Can you really find meteorites on the sidewalk?
Students in 5th, 6th, and 7th grade will learn the answers to these and other compelling science questions at Bellevue College’s new “Science Saturdays” for local students.

Science Saturdays are three hours of fun and challenging science activities, taught by Bellevue College (BC) Science Division faculty. Each afternoon is filled with “hands-on, minds-on” science projects designed to inspire young people to pursue learning in science, technology, engineering, and math.
Three sessions are scheduled for the coming months:
Jan. 22, 1-4pm
Astronomy with BC Astronomy and Physics Instructor Art Goss

Registration deadline: Jan. 19
Students will tour the solar system in the college’s advanced, digitally controlled Geer Planetarium, then hunt with magnets and microscopes for actual micro meteorites on the BC campus.
Feb. 12, 1-4pm
Geology with Geology and Environmental Science Instructors Gwyn Jones and Dr. Rob Viens
Registration deadline: Feb. 7
Students will discover how to “listen” to the stories rocks, sand, and minerals can tell about the history of the earth.
April 2, 1-4 p.m.
Chemistry with BC Chemistry Instructor Jacqui Drak
Registration deadline: March 28
Students will go beyond “boring home chemistry experiments” to put chemistry to the test in a safe environment.
Each session requires pre-registration and payment of a $50 registration fee per afternoon. Scholarships are available to qualifying students. Registration materials and further information are available at http://scidiv.bellevuecollege.edu/sami/sciencesaturdays.
