Five Bellevue Schools Among Newsweek's "America's Best High Schools"

Five Bellevue high schools made Newsweek's 2013 list of "America's Best HIgh Schools."

International, Newport, Interlake, Bellevue, and Sammamish all were included in the list, which is based on six components: four-year on-time graduation rate, percent of graduates accepted to college, Advanced Placement (AP)/International Baccalaureate (IB)/Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) tests taken per student, average SAT and/or ACT scores, average AP/IB/AICE test scores, and AP courses offered per student. 

The five schools were listed among the top 20 in the state, according to Newsweek's rankings.

Last month four of Bellevue's high schools made U.S. News & World Report's Best High School rankings, with International School getting ranked the 9th best school in the country. The Washington Post also included the schools in its list of the top 200 schools in its list of America’s Most Challenging High Schools.

According to a Bellevue School District news release, the reason why Bellevue Schools often are ranked among the top in the country include the following:

• AP classes are open to all high school students in Bellevue
• 91 percent of all Bellevue high school graduates have completed one or more AP or IB courses.
• This year, 3,500 high school students in Bellevue enrolled in more than 8,400 rigorous AP, IB and “Beyond AP” courses.
• 67 percent of Bellevue’s Class of 2012 graduates earned a passing score on at least one AP exam during high school, compared to 19 percent of graduates nationally.
