Bellevue East Lacrosse Opens Playoffs Friday

The girls' Lacrosse team will face Bainbridge at Interlake Stadium

Bellevue East Girls Lacrosse faces traditional powerhouse Bainbridge Island in the opening round of the state high school lacrosse playoffs, this Friday, May 13, at 6:30 p.m. at Stadium.

Bellevue East, 10-2 in the regular season, finished second in the Northeast conference. Bainbridge, 7-5, was third in the Southwest. 

BELAX's potent offense averaged 17 points a game, led by the triumverate of junior Sophie Wolz, sophomore Kayla Miller and freshman Camille Sullivan. They all rank in the state top 10 in scoring. On the defensive end of the field, Bellevue East held opponents to only 8.6 goals a game, anchored by sophomore Elena Becker, the state leader in caused turnovers, and freshman Angela Navas.

The young BELAX squad is coached by Craig Van Der Horn. The Division 2 state championship game is set for 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, at Eastside Catholic High. 

Bellevue East's team comprises girls from all Bellevue schools except Bellevue High. In addition to the high school squad, the club has youth programs for girls starting in the 3rd grade.
