Bellevue Prep Athletes of the Season

Bellevue area schools continued to be among the best in the state in extra-cirricular activities, and that ability is demonstrated in the performances of these athletes.

Valentines day is all about great pairings, and the Bellevue prep sports scene is full of them. So at the end of this season of sports, Bellevue Patch is taking a minute to honor our Athletes of the Season, and the teammates that helped make it happen.

Swimming: Victor Hsiao,

Hsiao has capped off a wonderful Interlake swimming career with a third straight Ironman status, taking part in postseason tournaments again in 2011. Hsiao was consistently the best swimmer in the area, and indeed one of the best in the state. His competition with teammate Eldon Cummings led both to take on state in each of the eight events

Gymnastics: Candace Ho,

Perhaps the most difficult category this year, Ho and her teammate Kristine Wong teamed up to make . The Knights have owned every competition they have participated in this year, and now they look to unseat Woodinville, the perennial gymnastics powerhouse. Having beat them twice previously this season, Ho and the rest of the Newport knights have a lot to look forward to.

Boys Basketball: Nate Sikma,

The Wolverine’s 6-5 Senior Forward led the team averaging nearly 20 points per game with up close to 500 points on the year. The pairing of Sikma and teammate Will Locke has been a potent mix for Bellevue this season, taking them all the way to the KingCo 3A title game before ultimately dropping to Mercer Island. Sikma has the talent to follow in the footsteps of former Supersonic Jack Sikma, and it will be interesting to watch his basketball path develop in the coming years.

Girls Basketball: Taylor Ferleman,

Leading all Bellevue schools in points Ferleman and teammate Natsumi Naito were bright stars in what was otherwise a tough year for Sammamish basketball. Despite only posting three wins throughout the season, Ferleman often headlined the scoring Sammamish managed, several times putting up half her team’s points herself. Her effort was capitalized by a 20 point performance against Liberty High School in January.

Wrestling: Connor Hudson,

It seemed that every week Bellevue would pull out a close victory, and that Hudson would be right in the middle of the action. In an early Game of the Week, Hudson spent nearly six minutes against his Mt. Si opponent before finally pinning him. Then, in a match against Liberty, Hudson pulled out the decisive pin, putting the game out of reach for the Patriots despite a late comeback.
