Bellevue Wolverines Top ESPN, Sports Illustrated Rankings

The Bellevue Wolverines, who just won their fifth straight football title this month, are recognized as the top football team in the nation by ESPN and Sports Illustrated.

Bellevue Wolverines are now recognized as the top team in the country by ESPN and Sports Illustrated, after the defeat of the previous top-ranked football program, the Manatee Hurricanes of Bradenton, Fla.

The Wolverines this month became the only team in state history to win five straight football titles after defeating Eastside Catholic 35-3. Bellevue has been dominant in for more than a decade; the 2012 title the school's tenth since 2001.

ESPN reports that there are still games to be played in Texas, so Bellevue may yet be usurped. But Sports Illustrated says that Bellevue might have its top spot for good, helped by its earlier win over Trinity High School of Euless, Texas.
