Sammamish Totems Crush Interlake Saints, 79-42, Friday Night

Sammamish High School and leading scorer Jarjour break the backs of crosstown rivals Interlake.

In the latest iteration of the Crossroads rivalry, the Totems brought a swagger to Friday night that the Saints just couldn't match.

Interlake's gym was packed nearly to capacity for Friday's game, featuring two schools separated by less than two miles. The student bodies know eachother well, creating some good-natured ribbing and a fun basketball atmosphere.

The Totems, led by a 23-point performance from junior Sami Jarjour, claimed an easy victory over the home team, 79-42. Junior John Steinberg finished second for the Totems with 21 points, including 15 from beyond the arc.

Sammamish started off strong, getting out to a 27-3 lead before Interlake began to fend off its opponents. Quick half-court passes, press defense and a torrential downpour of shots from beyond the three point line put the visiting side way out ahead early. In the second quarter, Interlake began to take passes from half-court over the Sammamish D, but the Saints could not prevent the Totems from matching each point. At halftime, the score was 28-50, Sammamish.

The third quarter was Sammamish's most dominant. They outscored their cross-town rivals 23-3 in eight minutes. Leading the charge was Jarjour, scoring 12 points in the quarter himself to effectively break the back - and spirit – of the Interlake side.

Interlake managed to outscore Sammamish in the final quarter on the back of leading scorer Dexter Barcus-Glover, but the damage was done, and the Sammamish student section walked away friday night the happier crowd.
