Newport Hills Divers Win Midlakes Championship

Newport Hills Swim & Tennis Club, which hosted the meet, won the 2013 Midlakes Diving Club Championship on July 28.

Newport Hills Swim & Tennis Club won the 2013 Midlakes Diving Club Championship on July 28.

The Newport Hills Swim & Tennis Club dive team, hosts of the championship meet, finished with 108 points, followed by 2nd-place Mercer Island Beach Club with 77 points, Mercerwood Shore Club, 51, Phatom Lake Bath & Tennis Club, 38 points and Seattle Tennis Club with 13 points.

Here's a roster of the top finishers for girls and boys:

GIRLS


  • 8 & under: Mercer Island Beach Club's Brooke Andrews finished first in the "A" division with a score of 91.1; MIBC's Quincy Johnson finished first in the "B" division with 59.25 points.
  • 10 & under: Newport's Anna Bencke finished first in the "A" division with a score of 141.15; MIBC's Kate Eggin finished first in the "B" division with 103.1 points.
  • 12 & under: Newport's Jenny Morasch finished first in the "A" division with a score of 187.55; Mercerwood's Molly Alford finished first in the "B" division with 136.9 points.
  • 14 & under: Phantom Lake's Kristen Hines finished first in the "A" division with a score of 220.25; Newport's Lucy Guadalupe finished first in the "B" division with 188.5 points.
  • 17 & under: Phantom Lake's McKenna Troje finished first in the "A" division with a score of 228; Newport's Hannah Walsh finished first in the "B" division with 232.3 points.

BOYS


  • 8 & under: MIBC's Davis LeClercq finished first in the "A" division with a score of 69.6; Mercerwood's Griffin King finished first in the "B" division with 59.45 points.
  • 10 & under: Newport's T.J. Trimble finished first in the "A" division with a score of 112.5; MIBC's Callum McCarthy finished first in the "B" division with 93.85 points.
  • 12 & under: Mercerwood's Gabe Neale finished first in the "A" division with a score of 203.35; Newport's Tucker Nikolaisen finished first in the "B" division with 142 points.
  • 14 & under: Seattle's Per Anderson finished first in the "A" division with a score of 198; Newport's Trevor Swihart finished first in the "B" division with 169.79 points.
  • 17 & under: Newport's Chase Jones finished first in the "B" division with a score of 232.2 points. No finisher registered in the "A" division for this age class.

The Midlakes Swim League began 1954 and 27 private clubs on the Eastside currently participate in competitve aquatic sports. The annual League Championship is considered one of the top venues in the area for competitive club swimming and aquatic sports for children ages 8-18.

According to its website, the league involves over 3,000 youth athletes from late May thru August in swimming, diving and water polo.
