The Yankees acquired Mariners' right fielder and beloved local hero Ichiro Suzuki in a trade Monday night, according to reports, including Sports Illustrated and CBSSports.com.
MLB.com reports that Ichiro's first game as a Yankee was the same day as the announcement, in Seattle against his old team. The Yankees won, 4-1.
ESPN.com reports that in return, the Mariners will acquire two minor league pitchers.
Ichiro, 38, has played for the Mariners since 2001, after playing for the Orix Blue Wave baseball team in Japan, where he was a big star. But there were doubts raised about his returning to the Mariners next year, because of the expense of his contract and because of his age, as colorfully expressed by former Mariner Jay Buhner.
What do you think? Will you miss Ichiro?
