State Gymnastics Roundup: Bellevue Gymnasts Have Strong Showing; Caitlin Lawyer Represents The Totems

The Girl’s Gymnastics team brought three individuals to the 2011 WIAA State 1A/2A/3A Individual Gymnastics meet at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall on Friday afternoon.

The Wolverines were led by the strong showing of Senior Jacqueline Hamilton who posted a 9.4 on the Balance Beam good enough for second place in that event. She also claimed third place in the uneven bars with a score of 8.900, also in the all-around competition Hamilton took 11th overall with a score of 36.050.

Bellevue Head Coach Leah Mueller praised her Senior All-Around performer after the meet. “Jackie did a really good job,” Mueller said. “She hit all of her routines going for 4 for 4.”

Also, the Wolverines had a strong showing from Freshman Alexis Nunes. She had her best performance of the day was on the floor exercise where she posted a score of 8.950.

“Alexis is a rising up and comer for us as a freshman,” Mueller said. “She did a really good job on floor, and did a new bar routine for state that was great.”

Gymnast Caitlin Lawyer represented the Totems at the 2011 WIAA State 1A/2A/3A Individual meet as an All-Around competitor. The spotlight performances for Lawyer were a 26th place showing on the vault with a score of 8.7. Her highest score of the day came on the Floor exercise where she scored a 8.850.
