Bellevue 4th of July Reminder: Private Fireworks are Banned

Bellevue residents will have to watch anything that flames, sparks, flies or explodes from a distance, as the city reminds residents that Bellevue has banned private common fireworks since 1994.

That doesn't mean that Bellevue will be without any sparkle on July 4th. People can watch a public firework display at the at 10 p.m. at .

A public fireworks display is also planned for Lake Boren Park in Newcastle, the city reported. Music and picnicking begin at 5 p.m. and the fireworks show begins at 10 p.m.

City officials urged residents of Bellevue and the communities served by the fire department to enjoy licensed fireworks displays this July 4th but refrain from using illegal fireworks themselves.

Bellevue Fire Marshal Ken Carlson issued a reminder that the sale, use or possession of all common fireworks – anything that flames, sparks, flies or explodes – has been prohibited in Bellevue since 1994. He believes the ban is responsible for keeping the number of fires and injuries caused by fireworks comparatively low.

The Bellevue Fire Department provides protection to the following communities, which also prohibit fireworks: Beaux Arts Village, Clyde Hill, Hunts Point, Medina, Newcastle and Yarrow Point.

Residents are encouraged to attend public displays of fireworks. The largest one on the Eastside is the Symetra Bellevue Family 4th celebration at Downtown Park. Family events start at 2 p.m. and the fireworks show begins shortly after 10 p.m.

A public fireworks display is also planned for Lake Boren Park in Newcastle. Music and picnicking begin at 5 p.m. and the fireworks show begins at 10 p.m. Due to limited parking, residents are encouraged to find alternate means of transportation to the event.
