2011 King County Youth Summit Conference

A recap of this year's Youth Summit Conference.

I had the opportunity to attend the King County Youth Summit Conference along with other members March 19  at Cleveland High School in Seattle. This event was created to give teens all over the King County area insight into opportunities for youth.

Many of the workshops available, such as “Graffiti,” “How to write a resume,” and “How to apply for college scholarships,” were very informative . These workshops were all hands-on. For example, in the Graffiti workshop, everyone got a chance to create graffiti after learning the different lettering styles such as "block" and "bubble.” At the "How to write a resume" workshop, I received a sheet full of steps and questions I would want to ask myself when writing a resume or before going to an interview. This workshop increased my confidence in applying for a job.

After the various workshops, there were numerous roundtable discussions. Out of the many choices, I attended the Music & Arts discussion. It made me realize how many opportunities there are out there in our community for teens with interests in arts and music. We were encouraged to become more involved with our communities and search for opportunities that correspond to our areas of interest.

Afterward, the King County Youth Summit Conference provided dinner, followed by an opportunity to view resources at more than 20 booths. All of the organizations focused on allowing teens to network and find more opportunities.

This event was well thought-out and nicely planned. I would definitely recommend it to any youth interested in expanding his or her horizons.
