Sammamish High School is one of five public high schools in Bellevue to be recognized in Newsweek's "America's…More Best High School" edition - the others were Interlake, International School, and Newport and Bellevue high schools. Sammamish offers 18 Advanced Placement classes, a visual and performing arts magnet program that includes digital video production, dance, Japanese ceramics, hot glass and music. The school also offers a bilingual transition program for English language learners and academic assistance.</p> <p>Nearly 90 percent of tenth graders passed the state standardized test for writing last year and 78 percent met reading standards.</p> <p> </p>

Students receive the majority of their learning in Spanish, with English reading and language added in the second grade, with the goal of becoming bilingual. Students who continue in the Spanish-immersion program can continue at Tillicum Middle School and Newport High School.</p> <p>There are prerequisites to admission to Puesta del Sol; if there are more applicants than space, admission is determined by lottery. Parent meetings for admission begin mid-year. Activities at Puesta del Sol have included clubs for math, science, chess and running.</p>

Students in the Bellevue district's Spanish Immersion program can continue at the middle school level through its Language Arts and Social Studies programs. Tillicum also hosts Spanish Language Nights and family travel opportunities for students in that program.</p> <p>The French Bilingual Association of Seattle's Eastside also provides a privately run French language class, open to any student who is a native or fluent speaker of French. The school's library has 12,000 volumes in French and English.</p> <p>The school follows the structure of the French Ministry of Education, including the school break pattern (although the school does attempt to schedule most of the breaks with the Issaquah and Bellevue public schools). According to school officials, not only have FISW students graduated to local public and private middle schools, but students after fifth grade have been able to enroll in schools in France.</p> <p>Families need not be native French speakers, but prospective students in the upper elementary grades will be assessed for French language skills before admission.</p> <p>Financial aid is available. French nationals may also apply to France for financial aid to attend this school.</p>
