Interlake High School is one of the schools in the state that consistently makes the "America's Best High Schools" listsMore in both Newsweek and U.S. News and World Report. Last year, it was named in the top 20 on Newsweek's list, which used participation in advanced courses as part of the criteria. Interlake is the only high school in the Bellevue School District that offers both advanced placement classes, which give students college-level course work that is evaluated in a national test, and the International Baccalaureate Program, an internationally recognized two-year diploma program with academically rigorous courses. Interlake is also the location of the Gifted High School Program, for students who score high on the Cognitive Abilities Test. Students in Bellevue's gifted program for middle school students (PRISM) are enrolled automatically.

International School of Bilingual Montessori is an early childhood educational institution which offers a multi-ageMore learning environment. The Montessori curriculum is divided between either Japanese and English or Chinese and English programming. The mornings are devoted to either the foreign language immersion program or the English preschool program and the afternoons feature the opposite language. In the multi-age environment, older students motivate younger children and develop leadership skills.

This year, the Bellevue School District will educate 17,700 students in kindergarten through 12th grade in Bellevue,More Medina and Clyde Hill. The school district has several notable programs, including the programs for its high school students. The high schools also have good athletic programs, with student athletes and teams regularly being recognized for their achievements in sport.

Most of the high schools have been featured in annual lists of top public high school published by Newsweek and U.S. News and World Report because of the number of students who participate in advanced, college-level courses. At many of the schools, the percentage of students who speak a language other than English at home is in the double digits. The district also has a k-12 Spanish immersion track, for English-speaking students who want to become fluent in Spanish and a middle-high school that focuses on global issues and high achievement, and one high school, Interlake High School, which offers an International Baccalaureate diploma.

However, the district is also in a state of transition with other programs. After the closure of Robinswood High School, an alternative school, the district is exploring developing new models for alternative education.
